The supplement market in the UK is rapidly growing with revenue generated estimated to be over half a billion pounds. Walk into any health shop or scroll through any online store, and you’ll see hundreds of brands fighting for attention on the same shelf. So what separates the products people pick up from the ones they scroll past?
Packaging. That’s it. Before anyone reads the ingredients, checks the dosage, or compares prices, they see the box. And in a market this crowded, your supplement packaging needs to do more than hold just the product. It needs to build trust, communicate quality, and meet strict food labelling regulations, all at the same time.
At Custom Pack Studio, we design and produce custom supplement packaging right here in Scotland. Whether you’re launching a new vitamin range, scaling a protein powder brand, or packaging herbal supplements for retail, we’ll create boxes that protect your product and present it the way it deserves.
Why Your Supplement Packaging Matters More Than You Realise
Supplements sit in a unique category. They’re a health product, so customers expect clinical accuracy and trustworthiness. But they’re also a lifestyle product, which means the packaging has to look good enough to earn a place on someone’s kitchen counter or gym bag.
Generic, off-the-shelf boxes don’t cut it. A plain white tub with a sticker label might hold your product, but it won’t tell a customer why your product is worth paying more for than the supermarket own-brand sitting next to it. Custom packaging bridges that gap between what’s inside and what the customer expects to see outside and that can make all the difference.
There’s a compliance angle too. The Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003 and Regulation 1169/2011 set out specific requirements for how food supplements must be labelled and packaged. Getting this wrong can mean products pulled from shelves, wasted stock, and reputational damage that takes months to recover from.
Custom Supplement Boxes for Every Product Type
Supplements come in all forms, and each one has different packaging needs. A box that works for capsules won’t necessarily suit a protein powder, and liquid supplements need different protection compared to tablets or gummies. From nutraceutical startups to established vitamin brands, every product deserves packaging designed around its specific requirements.
Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamin boxes need to be clean, clinical, and easy to read. Customers want to see the dosage, ingredients, and health claims clearly without turning the box three times to find what they’re looking for. We produce tuck-end boxes and sleeve-style packaging that gives you plenty of printable surface area for all the required information, while still looking sharp on a retail shelf.
Protein Powders and Meal Replacements
Larger format packaging for protein powders, pre-workouts, superfood blends, and meal replacement products needs to balance durability with shelf appeal. These products tend to be heavier, so the box structure matters. Crash-lock bottom boxes work well here because they hold more weight without collapsing, and they assemble quickly if you’re packing high volumes.
Capsules, tablets, and Softgels
Smaller supplement products like capsule bottles and blister packs need packaging that protects against moisture and light. We use moisture-resistant coatings and food-safe inks to keep the product in perfect condition from production to purchase. Tamper-evident closures add another layer of consumer confidence.
Herbal and Botanical Supplements
Herbal products often appeal to a more design-conscious customer. Natural textures, earthy colour palettes, and tactile finishes like soft-touch lamination or embossing work well for brands that want to communicate a connection to nature without looking homemade.

Probiotics, CBD, and Specialist Supplements
Specialist supplements carry additional compliance requirements. CBD products, for example, need clear labelling around THC content and food supplement classification. Probiotic packaging might need to account for temperature sensitivity. Whatever the product, we’ll make sure your packaging meets the standards your sector demands.
Materials and finishes that protect and impress
The material you choose affects how your product looks, feels, and survives the journey from production to customer. We offer a range of options, and our team can recommend the best fit for your supplement type and budget.
Custom Pack Studio offers a variety of finishing options.
A proper finish can transform good packaging design into great packaging design. Matte lamination gives a smooth, sophisticated feel, while gloss lamination makes colours pop and adds a layer of moisture protection.
Embossing and debossing add a tactile element that customers notice the moment they pick up your product. Spot UV creates contrast by highlighting specific areas with a glossy sheen against a matte background.
Food Supplement Labelling Requirements in the UK
Getting your labelling right isn’t optional. Food Standards Scotland and the Department of Health have set clear rules about what must appear on food supplement packaging, and non-compliance can result in product recalls.
Under the Food Supplements (Scotland) Regulations 2003 and Regulation 1169/2011 on food information to consumers, your packaging must include:
- The words “food supplement” (not “dietary supplement”, which is the American term)
- A full list of ingredients, with allergens emphasised in bold
- The recommended daily dose and a warning not to exceed it
- A statement that the product should not replace a varied diet
- Storage instructions and a “keep out of reach of children” warning
- A best before or use-by date
- The name and address of the responsible food business (must be a UK address)
- Batch number for traceability
Font size matters too. All legally required text must use a minimum of 1.2mm for lowercase letters. We design packaging with these requirements built in from the start, so you don’t have to worry about fitting compliance text in as an afterthought.
If you’re making health claims on your packaging, those need to be authorised under the EU Register of health claims (which still applies in GB). We can’t advise on claim wording, but we can make sure the layout gives you enough space to include everything you need.
Why Scotland-based Production Matters
Most custom packaging suppliers in the UK are based in England, or they’re international companies shipping from overseas. That means longer lead times, higher shipping costs, and less opportunity for face-to-face collaboration.
We’re based in Irvine, backed by our parent company KennedySmith (Press) Ltd, who’ve been in commercial print production since 1997. That’s nearly three decades of manufacturing expertise feeding directly into every box we make. Scottish supplement brands get a local partner who understands the market, can turn orders around quickly, and is available for a phone call or a site visit when needed.
For businesses across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, and everywhere in between, working with a Scotland-based packaging company means shorter supply chains and faster turnarounds. We deliver nationwide too, so location is never a barrier.
No Minimum Order
This is where we’re different from almost every competitor you’ll find online. Most custom supplement packaging suppliers require minimum orders of 100, 500, or even 1,000 boxes. That’s fine if you’re an established brand running proven product lines, but it’s a problem if you’re launching something new.
We have no minimum order. You can order one box or ten thousand. That means you can test packaging designs before committing to a full production run, create samples for investor pitches or trade shows, or package limited-edition supplement ranges without sitting on excess stock. Whether you need 25 boxes for a trial batch or 5,000 for a retail launch, the quality is the same.
Design Support Included
Not every supplement brand has an in-house graphic designer. That’s fine. We offer a design consultation service where our team helps you develop packaging artwork from scratch or refines what you already have.
If you prefer to work independently, our online 3D design tool lets you build your box design yourself, choose dimensions, upload artwork, and preview how the finished product will look before you place an order. For those who want full creative control, we provide die line templates you can pass to your own designer. A die line is simply a flat outline of the box showing where each panel folds, where print goes, and where to leave space for glue tabs.
We accept artwork in all standard formats, and we recommend a minimum resolution of 300 DPI to ensure sharp, professional print quality.
