Bespoke packaging is packaging designed and built around one product and one brand. The box is sized to the item inside and the artwork printed in a premium style, often using the brand’s own colours.
At Custom Pack Studio, an order can start from a single box, so if you’re new to bespoke packaging, you can test a design before committing to a larger run.
We produce packaging for your business in our British factory and deliver across the UK.
What bespoke packaging includes – By custom packaging professionals in Manchester
A bespoke order starts with your product’s measurements.
We build the box to those dimensions, pick a board that suits the weight and fragility of what’s inside, and print your artwork so the finished pack looks like it belongs to your brand and nobody else’s.
Because every detail is fully customised, a bespoke order can be a printed mailer for one candle, a jewellery box, or a gift box with a card insert for a perfume set.
Our custom packaging boxes cover the structures most small brands start with, such as postal boxes, tuck-end cartons and sleeves.
We can even create custom solutions for packaging that doesn’t suit ordinary box dimensions.
Bespoke, custom and stock packaging
Bespoke packaging is made to your specification from the structure up, with its own size, material and print, while custom packaging is the wider term and includes standard cardboard boxes with your logo on a sticker.
Stock packaging sits at the other end, with fixed sizes that rarely match a product exactly.
A fixed-size box leaves gaps around the product, and filler is then needed to stop it moving in transit.
A bespoke box removes that gap, so the product arrives held in place and the outer packaging needs less padding.
Bespoke box structure, print and finish
Structure and material
The structure is chosen first, because every other decision depends on it.
A reverse tuck-end carton, which closes with a flap that tucks into the front, suits lightweight products such as cosmetics and supplements, while a crash-lock bottom box folds flat and snaps into shape for heavier items.
Corrugated packaging protects a parcel on its way to the customer, and postal boxes are usually built from corrugated board.
Folding cartons use smooth folding box board instead, which takes print crisply and suits retail shelves.
Inserts and fitments
Custom inserts hold the product still.
A card insert cut to the shape of a bottle or jar keeps it from shifting, and because these internal fitments are card, there are no plastic components to peel out before recycling.
Print and finish of bespoke packaging
Share your brand guidelines or a colour reference for your printed packaging and we’ll match your brand colours. Our print quality stays consistent from the first box to the thousandth.
The number of colours in your artwork affects the print method, so mention it early.
Foil stamps a metallic logo onto the lid, and embossed logos are pressed upwards so they can be felt as well as seen.
Spot UV adds a glossy raised coating to one part of the artwork against a matt background.
Artwork sits on a flat template called a dieline, which marks every cut and fold, and our team prepares one for your measurements so you never have to draw it yourself.
How bespoke packaging raises a brand’s perceived value
A box printed in your brand colours and cut to fit the product looks more carefully made than a plain brown carton.
That difference in perceived value is visible before the lid comes off.
High-value products, cosmetic ranges and limited-edition releases gain the most from premium packaging, because luxury packaging cues such as soft-touch coating or foil tell the buyer what to expect.
The unboxing experience and the first impression
A good unboxing experience starts with a box that fits the product and holds everything in place when the customer opens the parcel.
A printed inside lid and an insert cut to the product are the two details you control, and a single brand colour on the lid with a snug fit is enough to make the pack feel finished.
Weighing up the packaging investment of custom packaging
Because there is no minimum order, order quantities here run from one box to over 10,000.
Growing brands can test a design on a small run and scale up when it sells.
Weigh the benefits of bespoke packaging against your current packaging first.
If products arrive damaged or you’re padding stock cartons with filler, a better-fitting pack is a cost-effective way to cut down both problems.
If a plain box already protects the product and margins are thin, a printed slide-on sleeve is a lighter packaging solution to start with.
How a bespoke packaging project works
Your packaging project starts with a call or message about your packaging needs, covering what the product is, how it ships and how many you want.
If you don’t have a designer, our design consultation takes a logo and a rough idea through to print-ready artwork, and you can design packaging yourself in our 3D design tool if you’d rather.
Before a full order, you can ask for a physical sample and check the fit, the colour and the print quality in your hand.
A printed sample or sample pack costs far less than reprinting a run that missed.
Once you approve the proof, production starts in our British factory and the finished boxes are delivered across the UK.
Cutting waste and your carbon footprint in packaging production
A box that fits its product uses less board and less filler, which is the simplest route to reducing your carbon footprint at the packing bench.
Our board is FSC and PEFC certified and fully recyclable, and card inserts replace plastic, so customers can recycle the whole pack without taking it apart.
Frequently asked questions on bespoke packaging
What are the three types of packaging?
Primary packaging is the layer touching the product, like a cosmetics carton, secondary packaging groups or ships those units, like a printed postal box, and tertiary packaging moves bulk stock on pallets.
Who makes bespoke packaging?
Specialist packaging printers and manufacturers make it. Custom Pack Studio produces in Scotland, backed by our parent company KennedySmith (Press) Ltd, which was established in 1997, and we deliver across the UK.
Can a small business order bespoke boxes?
Small businesses are exactly who the service is built around, and with no minimum order you can order as few as one box to test a design before committing to more.
Do I need a finished design before I ask?
A logo, your product’s measurements and a rough idea are enough to begin, and our team can turn them into print-ready artwork.
